About

Rebecca is an actor, singer and writer based in Toronto. She has worked with a variety of companies across North America in theatre, film, television and voice-over. Recently, she starred in Brain Power Studios' Forest Fairies (alongside Simon Callow) and Best Friend from Heaven. She's provided voices for the feature film The Fast and the Furriest, two characters in the forthcoming cartoon series Emojiville, and two main characters in forthcoming feature film Duck and Donk.

Also in 2016, she toured with Roseneath Theatre's award-winning TYA show The Money Tree (script recently published), which is due to tour the US in Fall 2017, starting in Las Vegas! She also featured in and single-handedly produced 2016's Toronto Fringe hit Romeo & Juliet Chainsaw Massacre, which got both Patron's Pick and Best of Fringe, and celebrity attendance by TV's Neil Patrick Harris.

Since 2013, Confessions of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl (★★★★★ Fringe Guru, The Nouse UK, CBC Radio), created and performed by Perry, has toured Fringes, festivals and professional theatres from coast to coast in Canada, the US, the UK and Ireland garnering multiple awards (including Outstanding Performer from NOW Magazine), critical acclaim, a profile on Global TV, and a live taping in front of a studio audience for Bell Fibe TV's "OnStage On Demand".

Confessions toured to the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it sold out its entire run at the prestigious Gilded Balloon Teviot, and had its own celebrity attendee: Anthony Rapp of Broadway's Rent! The success at Edinburgh led to a full rural tour of England in 2016. The Canadian première for the show was at the Rose Theatre, Brampton, and ∑ has since toured theatres around Ontario, including performances at the Sudbury Theatre Centre, the Lighthouse Festival Theatre, the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and a recent performance at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, NB. Confessions has upcoming performances in the Maritimes and BC as well as Ontario.

The second show in the series, Adventures of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl (★★★★★ TWISI, Fringebiscuit), was invited to return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016, where it continued Perry's intercontinental success, and led to a performance in early 2017 at Belltable in Limerick, Ireland. Adventures is about to start touring Ontario, beginning with a return invite to Classic Theatre Cobalt after the success there with Confessions.

Perry's most recent solo show, From Judy to Bette: The Stars of Old Hollywood premièred at the 2016 Next Stage Theatre Festival in Toronto, and began its professional touring life in March 2017 with performances in Fort Frances and Sioux Lookout. The show has upcoming performances in Ontario at the Mady Centre for the Performing Arts and the Richmond Hill PAC, and will be touring BC and travelling to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018. It is also set to tour the UK in early 2019.

In 2018, Perry will début Entertaining the Troops, a brand new solo show about Canadian, Tony Award-winning wartime entertainer Beatrice Lillie.

Perry was awarded the 2016 Harold Award for the House of Don McKellar, celebrating the success that her entrepreneurial spirit and understanding of the business side of acting has lead her to with her three respective solo shows that she created & performs across the globe.

Show synopsis

Judy Garland, Bette Davis, Lucille Ball, and Betty Hutton: trailblazers who refused to be “just another ingenue” during the golden age of cinema. An evening of scandalous headlines and marvelous melodies. Critically-acclaimed Toronto performer Rebecca Perry takes to the stage to look at the lives of the ladies who broke convention and started something bigger, perhaps, than even they knew. With this affecting show, Perry shows that she not only creates her own marvelous characters, but beautifully inhabits those characters – perhaps even larger still than her own – that inspire her.

Show synopsis

Anthropology graduate Joanie Little is stuck working as a barista. Rather than let this get her down, she decides to make the most of her “underemployment”. So, much like Jane Goodall did with chimpanzees, this upbeat Miss studies her only available subjects: the eccentric customers of her coffee shop ‘jungle’. Hilarity ensues, with jazzy tunes, co-worker showdowns, life lessons and even a bit of romance. Created and developed by Toronto’s critically acclaimed solo performer, Rebecca Perry, Joanie Little brews up a comedic storm that you won’t want to miss! Confessions of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl is the internationally successful show for anyone who has ever had a job they didn’t like.
